While the climate becomes more anxiety-provoking every day around the conflict in Ukraine, billionaire Elon Musk went there with his little apocalyptic forecast. On Twitter, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX indeed wondered in what condition could start a new world war.
According to him, the loss of Crimea by Moscow could be the trigger. Elon Musk stressed that the region is of crucial importance for Russia, of the same order as Hawaii or the bay of Pearl Harbor for the United States.
“If Russia is faced with the choice of losing Crimea or using nuclear weapons on the battlefield, it will choose the latter option. We have already sanctioned Russia in every possible way, so what more do they have to lose? If we hit Russia with nukes in response they will retaliate and then we will have World War 3,” he wrote on Twitter.
Moscow calms things down
While many have expressed their fears about a possible nuclear slippage in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine, Moscow has repeatedly tried to calm things down. On October 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had thus urged the media not to “artificially fan” the fire on this subject.
At the end of September, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for his part castigated the “nuclear blackmail” carried out by kyiv and its allies against Russia, both on the military level and on the civilian nuclear level, with the rise of tensions around the Zaporozhye power plant.
Elon Musk had already said that the nuclear risk was today “the highest for 60 years”. The boss of Tesla had also offered some leads on Twitter for a quick resolution of the conflict.
