Elon Musk starts the purge within the workforce

Bad times for the employees of the social network at the blue bird. “We will begin the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday”, Twitter told its employees this Thursday, November 3 in an email seen by AFP, confirming the rumors that have been circulating since billionaire Elon Musk bought the social network a week ago. The message says all employees will receive information by Friday morning when the California office opens, but does not specify how many people will be affected.

According to washington post the new leader planned to lay off about 50% of the approximately 7,500 employees. “We recognize that a number of individuals who have made notable contributions to Twitter are going to be affected, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success in the future”declares the company to the employees.

Departure cart

According to the wall street journal, an email announcing the long-awaited news will be sent to employees around 9 a.m. in San Francisco, or 5 p.m. French time. If the latter arrives on their personal e-mail box, it means that they are fired. If it gets to their Twitter inbox, they keep their jobs, says the internal document sent to them yesterday. Some of them have apparently already been warned of the bad news, as evidenced by some tweets posted early this morning by fired employees.

The boss of Tesla and SpaceX bought Twitter for 44 billion dollars and took control last Thursday, after six months of a very eventful acquisition. He immediately disbanded the board of directors, fired the chief executive and other senior officials, and launched major projects with goals to be accomplished quickly. Several engineers reported having to sleep on site some nights.

Elon Musk, who first renamed himself “Chief Twit” (“twit” meaning “moron” in English), then “Twitter hotline operator”brought in Tesla developers on Friday to review the work of Twitter employees. “The ongoing dismissal process is a farce and a disgrace. Tesla henchmen make decisions about people they know nothing about except the number of lines of code produced. It’s completely absurd.”tweeted last Sunday Taylor Leese, the director of an engineering team who says he was fired.
