Elon Musk’s controversial latest move comes in the form of a Twitter view counting feature, and users have collectively given it a pass. “Twitter rolls out View Count so you can see how many times a tweet has been viewed! That’s par for the video,” Musk wrote in a tweet. “Shows how much more twitter is alive than it seems when over 90% of twitter users read but do not tweet, reply or like as these are public actions. ,” he added. He also said that tweets typically get 100 times more views than likes.
Twitter users didn’t quite buy into the idea of the display feature. “This ‘view count’ thing is the dumbest feature in the history of twitter. hey, here’s the number of people who saw your tweet and completely ignored it. makes you comfortable, is it useful to you [sic]”, one Twitter user wrote.
this “view count” is the stupidest feature in twitter history. Hi, here’s the number of people who saw your tweet and completely ignored it. does it make you feel good does it help you – biggest rodent (@capybaroness) 22 December 2022
Although some Twitter users said they got the feature, it doesn’t appear to be available to everyone yet. Twitter could roll it out in phases.
