Shocked, two internet users on the Pharos platform had reported culinary practices apart from a man from Hautes-Pyrénées. The main ingredient in his recipes was none other than hedgehog.
Warned, the police decided to catch the chef and two of his helpers red-handed. The three poachers aged 22 to 33 were arrested on Saturday and Sunday during a check while they were hunting hedgehogs in parks in Tarbes.
Hunting is prohibited in France
A small animal was found alive in their car. Placed in police custody, they told police they did not know the practice was banned in France. This is not the first in the city of Tarbes, so on October 18 three men had already been arrested while hunting hedgehogs with a hunting dog.
They received a simple reminder of the law, but the French Biodiversity Office could take up the case and decide to take legal action against them. The hedgehog is actually a protected species whose capture and hunting is prohibited in France. If a case is brought against them, they are punished with three years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.
