BOSTON, May 18 (Reuters) – S&P Dow Jones Indices, one of the market’s leading index providers, has removed electric car maker Tesla Inc. from its S&P 500 ESG index, over claims of racial discrimination against the company and its handling of a government investigation after crashes involving its self-driving vehicles.

The changes to the S&P Dow Jones Indices, which took effect May 2, were described in a statement dated May 17, sent Wednesday by a spokesperson for the index provider. [https://bit.ly/3yHbHDF ] (Report by Ross Kerber; French version Dina Kartit, edited by)
